It just feels like layers upon layers of off-putting execution barriers, when the game could easily retain its complexity without them.This guide will show you how to get Source Crystals in Injustice 2. Also the windows for executing some of these dial-a-combos are awkward and unforgiving. Injustice 2 is making my hands hurt, and I'm not sure what is to be gained in having the game be so fast moving while also possessing so many sequenced inputs. I don't think I'm ever going to pull this off against a live opponent. I can't do it on a stationary target after half an hour. That's demanding that you execute that sequence of moves as quickly as the game allows, which is very very quickly and requires very precise timing. That's not like, "as quickly as you can do it, do your best, we'll be generous". Note that it says "as quickly as possible". That successful run surely came after failure upon failure. Because fuuuuuck, my haaaaand! My goddamn fingers! Aghghhhh! Simplify these inputs! Make the windows more generous! Maybe not 5-6 frames, but hell, even a full second isn't enough to process some of that shit.Īnd that's without factoring in online play with lag and input delays and all that horribleness.Īnd this is where my thread devolves into me not understanding why this is appealing to anyone. You've got to see things coming, let it click in your head what's happening and connect that to the proper response, then you've got to pull off your miniature contortionist act to do them. This is without even factoring in all you have to pay attention to on the screen. This leads to twisted contorted hand movements too fast to be healthy for anyone. There are a large number of special commands that require between 3 and 4 separate button presses to perform, such as meter burned special moves, and often times you have only the tiniest fraction of a second to perform them. The big problem with Injustice being so fast is that the moves you have to do aren't simple. That should give you an idea of the general speed of these games. In Injustice, the fastest is maybe half of that, and in other 2D fighters, the fastest is even less. What's more, the fastest start up on an attack in Tekken (with maybe one or two special exceptions) is 10 frames. I didn't have to break my back to get my timing right, ( just attacks excepting). If I'm doing a string of attacks and I pressed a button just a little too soon, it'd still take my input into regard once the animation for the first part of the attack was done. When doing combos and juggles in Tekken, I've always felt there was more forgiveness when it came to reading my inputs. I don't know if it's an input buffering thing or just absurdly strict (and not visually apparent) windows, but it's been mind boggling and frustrating. I press a button too soon, or a fraction of a fraction of a second too late, and the character just stands there like a doofus. ![]() I remember this being an issue in the first game as well. I've never had a game drop so many of my inputs as in Injustice 2. Tekken and Soul Calibur mostly, with more recent diversions into the likes of Virtua Fighter and even a tiny bit of Dead or Alive. It's all so unclear, and it begs the question, why?Īs far as fighting games go, I've always been more of a 3D fighter fan. ![]() You'd need to count the frames in a hi speed recording to see it, most likely. I usually can't tell the difference between my timing on a successful attempt and the unsuccessful ones surrounding it. Attempt after attempt at stringing together combos, memorizing sequences, contorting my fingers to hit the right directions and getting that exact window that the game demands. Cool.Ī couple hours later, and my hands are devastated. You get some rewards for completing this thing. I like it, I think it deserves a lot of praise.īut then I went to the new learn hub, a tutorial area meant to teach you the game's nitty gritty. Attention to detail is out of the world all over the place. Story mode was well done- somewhat brief at 3+ hours, but I enjoyed its presentation. ![]() Graphics are fighting's best when it comes to asset quality, detail and consistency. ![]() The Legendary Edition was on flash sale this weekend on PS4, and I've been eyeing it for a while, and I finally picked it up.
